Welcome to the Jerusalem Engine Repair Company

This is the first of many entries I plan to make concerning the ongoing recovery and restoration of the Jerusalem Engine Repair Company films and poems. As much as I would like to wrap a nice bow around this project and step away from all of the noise and excitement, the small daily victories, a recovered reel of film here or a salvageable parchment sheet there, keep me coming back to this scorched pile of rubble day in and day out.

Today one of the interns uncovered a film canister with the words "Brother Judd" scratched on one side, for example. I know we'll have to send it offsite for complete restoration, but there's always going to be a part of me that wants to crack open those rusted canisters and thread the film on a projector right away. There's just something about this place, this Jerusalem Engine Repair Company, that makes a person want to do everything all at once. The longer I stay with this project, the stronger the connection grows. What have I gotten myself into this time?
